Mia Taylor: From Player to Coach – A Yate Rugby Academy Success Story

Writer: yateyouthrugbyyateyouthrugby

At Yate Rugby Academy, we pride ourselves on creating an inclusive, family-oriented environment where players, coaches, and supporters all work together to inspire the next generation. Few embody this spirit better than Mia Taylor—a true testament to the values of Yate Rugby. From stepping onto the pitch as a young player to now coaching our Under-5s alongside her dad, Mark, Mia’s journey is one of passion, dedication, and leadership.

A Family Affair

Mia’s rugby story began when her dad was taking her younger brother to Yate Rugby Academy. Rather than sitting on the side-lines, she asked if she could get involved too—and from that moment on, she never looked back. As she grew older, her focus shifted from playing to coaching, and she found a new love for the game: inspiring the next generation of young players.

A Culture of Respect and Belonging

One of the things Mia loves most about Yate Rugby Academy is the respect that runs throughout the club. Regardless of age, experience, or ability, every player and coach is valued. That deep-rooted sense of mutual respect has helped shape Mia’s journey, both on and off the pitch.

"Playing and coaching at Yate has helped me so much because everyone is so friendly and they are always there if I need help," she says. "It has a real family feel, with everyone pulling in the same direction. The culture is amazing, and it translates through the coaching team and onto the kids."

A Standout Moment

Mia’s dedication and passion for coaching were recognised in the best way possible—when she was awarded Youth Coach of the Year. This moment stands out as one of her proudest achievements and a reflection of the hard work she’s put into making rugby fun, engaging, and welcoming for the youngest players in the Academy.

Why Yate Rugby Academy is Special

For Mia, Yate Rugby Academy isn’t just a club—it’s home. With her family actively involved, she has seen first-hand

the impact rugby can have on both individuals and the wider community.

"Yate Rugby Academy is special because my family are here taking part as well," she explains. That sense of togetherness makes Yate more than just a place to play rugby; it’s a place to grow, learn, and be part of something bigger.

Advice for Future Young Players

For any young players thinking about joining Yate Rugby Academy, Mia has one clear message: "There is nothing to be worried about because everyone is really welcoming." Whether you’re stepping onto the pitch for the first time or looking to develop your skills, Yate Rugby Academy is the perfect place to learn, make friends, and be part of an incredible rugby family.

Mia’s journey from player to coach is exactly what Yate Rugby Academy is all about—creating lifelong rugby lovers, building confidence, and fostering a community where everyone supports one another. We are proud to have her as part of our coaching team, and we can’t wait to see the impact she continues to make in the years to come! 💙🏉🔥
