Winning Ways: The Phoenixes Are On a Roll 🔥
Hello again, pull up a chair because this month’s blog is good.
🏆 Wins
We’re officially on a winning streak! The Phoenixes have won our last two matches, and the most recent was a cracker: Yate 30 – 17 North Bristol 3’s.
That’s a result built on all those cold, muddy Wednesday nights, and it’s brilliant to see the girls turning the hard graft into points on the board. The foundation we talked about last month is really showing, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
🙌 New Faces, Stronger Squad
Our squad keeps growing! We’ve welcomed some more new players this month, and the difference on game days is already clear. A bigger squad means more options, more energy on the sideline and more people pulling together when it counts.
If you’re one of our newbies: welcome, we’re so glad you’re here, and if you’ve been thinking about joining us, the door’s open.
📅 Training: Same Time, Same Place
A reminder that training is Wednesdays, 6:45pm–8:30pm. We start with mobility and stretching, move into drills, then finish with game plays and run-throughs. No experience needed, just bring yourself and a bit of enthusiasm.
🎃 Spooky Season
We couldn’t let Halloween pass without a team get-together! The Yate Halloween party brought out some properly spooky outfits, a few drinks and plenty of laughs. Rugby teams are always better when you get to know each other off the pitch too, and this was a great night for it.
🔦 NEW FEATURE: Who’s the Player?
We promised you spotlights so you know who you’re dealing with, and here’s the first instalment! Each month we’ll interview someone from the team. This month’s hot seat belongs to our Female Health & Wellbeing Lead, Nicole Askwith Williams.
What position do you play, and when and why did you start rugby?I play 13 or 15. I got recruited while running around a field training for triathlons last year, and I stayed because it’s great fun with a great group of ladies! I also grew up in a rugby household, so it was probably always going to happen.
What’s your favourite thing about playing rugby, and about Yate Women’s?I’ve only ever really done individual sports, so being part of a team is lovely.
If you could play any other position, what would it be and why?I want to be speedy, so a winger, or trample over people like a prop 😂
What’s a fun or crazy fact about yourself?I’ve broken my collarbone three times.
🩺 Still Wanted: Team Physio
We’re still looking for a physio to support the ladies in and around matches. If that’s you, or you know someone who’d like to get involved, drop us an email. We’d love to chat.
