Yate Phoenixes 22–10 Fairford Vixens

Well, what a performance from our Phoenixes! 🔥 Rugby Riley here, and I can tell you, there was plenty to cheer about as Yate took on Fairford Vixens and came away with a fantastic 22–10 victory.

With nerves in the air before kick-off, this was only the team's second game of the season. But as soon as that whistle blew, those nerves turned into determination, and the Phoenixes brought their A-game from the very first minute!

🔥 Relentless Phoenixes Take Flight

The Phoenixes were absolutely relentless, making ground, putting in big tackles and making Fairford work for every inch.

This was a proper team performance, with the forwards and backs working together brilliantly to move the ball, build phases and keep the pressure on the opposition.

And the tries? There were some fantastic moments to celebrate!

A special mention goes to Alison and Ellie, who both scored their first tries for Yate. What a milestone for the pair — hopefully the first of many in Phoenix colours! 💙💛

But the standout moment came late in the game. With the Phoenixes determined to finish strongly, Katie produced a swift pop pass to Jade in Fairford's 22, setting up Yate's fourth try.

The timing was superb, the execution was spot on, and the celebrations said it all!

The women weren't content to settle for three tries. They kept pushing right up to the final whistle, showing the hunger and ambition that made this such an exciting performance.

💥 Big Tackles, Bigger Team Spirit

There were some seriously impressive defensive performances across the pitch.

George, Evie, Nicole, Katie and Jade were dominating the tackle area, putting in the hard work and making sure Fairford had to earn every metre.

And Brainer was a beast at the counter-ruck! The physical commitment and determination to compete for possession helped keep the Phoenixes on the front foot.

The team were excellent at getting the ball out, supporting one another and making ground. It was relentless rugby, built on hard work and trust in the player beside you.

There's still room to sharpen things up, particularly in pushing up together in defence and improving the counter-ruck, but the foundations are looking strong.

🌟 Three Debuts and Plenty to Celebrate!

Now, you know I love a good debut story, and this weekend gave us three reasons to celebrate!

👏 Jade 2 made her Yate debut and showed real strength and confidence. She supported the team brilliantly and looked right at home in Phoenix colours.

👏 Sophie 2 made her debut after attending just one training session! Talk about jumping in at the deep end. She gave it everything, showed great commitment and is definitely one to watch as she develops her game.

👏 Mel also made her debut — and you would never have guessed it! She played the full 80 minutes like a natural, throwing herself into the challenge and making a fantastic contribution.

A huge welcome to all three. The Phoenixes family is growing, and performances like these show exactly what happens when players back themselves and their teammates.

🛡️ Fairford Fight Back

Credit must also go to Fairford Vixens, who brought a physically strong side to the contest.

They worked well together, complemented each other's skills and showed real commitment in the tackle. They certainly made the Phoenixes work for the win, and it was a competitive match from start to finish.

The final few minutes proved just how much both teams had left to give.

Fairford were pushing in Yate's 22, looking for another try, but the Phoenixes held firm. Their defensive determination denied the Vixens a second score and ensured Yate could celebrate a well-earned victory.

That is the kind of resilience that wins rugby matches!

❤️ One Team, One Determination

What impressed me most was the way the Phoenixes refused to settle.

They could have been content with three tries, but instead they kept working, kept making ground and kept believing there was more to give. That fourth try in the final five minutes was the reward for their persistence.

And when Fairford came looking for a late score, the whole team dug deep to defend their line.

Four tries, a 22–10 win, two first-time try-scorers and three players making their Yate debuts. Not a bad afternoon's work!

The Phoenixes will take plenty of confidence from this performance, while continuing to work on pushing up together in defence and sharpening their counter-rucking.

🔥 Rugby Riley's Final Whistle

The nerves before kick-off were replaced by smiles at full-time, and rightly so.

This was a team that showed physicality, determination, togetherness and a real desire to keep improving. From the first whistle to the last, the Phoenixes made Fairford work for everything — and when the pressure was on, they delivered.

A huge congratulations to Alison and Ellie on their first Yate tries, and to Jade 2, Sophie 2 and Mel on their debuts. And a big shoutout to everyone who put their bodies on the line and played their part in this fantastic result.

The Phoenixes are finding their wings, and they're only just getting started! 🐦‍🔥

Come on, Yate! 💙💛🏉
