🏉 Rugby Rose: Phoenixes Show Incredible Fight Against Royal Wootton Bassett

Yate Phoenixes 0–32 Royal Wootton Bassett
By Rugby Rose 🌹
There are games where the scoreline tells one story, and then there are games where the performance tells another.
The Phoenixes may have gone down 32–0 to Royal Wootton Bassett, but by the final whistle there was something far more important than the score on everyone's minds:
Pride.
The Phoenixes went into the game carrying plenty of nerves, and it took them a little while to settle into the match. But once they found their rhythm, the defensive effort was relentless.
đź’Ş A Second-Half Statement
For me, the standout moment came in the second half.
After a difficult opening period, the Phoenixes conceded just one try after the break.
That says an awful lot about the character of this group.
They kept working. They kept tackling. They kept getting back into position.
And they refused to let their heads drop.
Right through to the final whistle, the Phoenixes showed that determination to keep defending for each other.
🔥 Sophie Leads the Charge
There were some fantastic individual efforts, but Sophie deserves a special mention.
She was absolutely everywhere.
Getting fully stuck in, chasing everything and putting herself into the action all over the pitch, Sophie showed exactly the kind of commitment that this Phoenixes team is built around.
But it wasn't just Sophie.
The whole team showed relentless defensive effort, and that persistence continued right until the final whistle.
⚡ Fearless Evie & A Scrum Powerhouse
There were also some fantastic signs from two players continuing their rugby journeys.
Evie was absolutely fearless.
After just two weeks of training, she was fired onto the pitch and immediately got fully stuck in. That's some introduction to match rugby!
And then there's Kelly...
An absolute powerhouse in the scrum! 💪
It's fantastic to see new players coming into the Phoenixes, throwing themselves into the challenge and becoming part of the team.
🏉 Learning From a Strong Opposition
Royal Wootton Bassett were a physically strong team who worked extremely well as a unit.
They provided the Phoenixes with a tough test and plenty of opportunities to learn, and credit to them for the way they played.
For Yate, the next step is clear: in defence, the team want to work on pushing up on the opposition rather than waiting for them to come to us.
There's plenty to build on.
💙💛 Proud of the Phoenixes
At full-time, the mood had changed completely from before kick-off.
The nerves had gone.
In their place was a real sense of pride.
Yes, the Phoenixes didn't get the result they wanted. But they showed resilience, determination and a refusal to stop fighting.
And sometimes that's where progress is made.
The Phoenixes are still growing, still learning and still finding their feet — but performances like this show exactly what this group is capable of when they stick together.
32–0 on the scoreboard.
But pride, persistence and progress for the Phoenixes.
And that's something worth taking into the next week. 💙💛🔥
Rugby Rose signing off. 🌹🏉
