Match report by Rugby Riley
This one was exactly what grassroots rugby is all about.
A proper development game against Kingswood, played in great spirit, with the focus firmly on learning, growing, and giving players the time they need on the pitch. We’re really grateful to Kingswood for coming over and buying into that approach these are the kind of fixtures that genuinely help young players develop.
Right from the off, you could see the intent. We structured the game over 4 quarters to allow for extra coaching, more game time, and plenty of opportunity to try things out. And that’s exactly what happened.
One of the biggest positives was seeing players stepping into different positions. It’s such an important part of development understanding not just your own role, but what others around you need to do. That awareness will be massive for this group as we head into next season.
The 5 new lads really stood tall today. You could see their confidence growing every time they got their hands on the ball. Kasper put in some strong, direct carries, Rowan showed great awareness with a couple of sharp line breaks, and Arthur’s tackling was spot on technically strong and full of intent. Hyden is really starting to find his feet (and yes… I did spot a smile or two out there!), and D’Andrew looked right at home on the wing, showing great positioning and willingness to get involved.
Across the team, there was a real sense of togetherness and willingness to learn. That’s what stood out most for me not just the rugby, but the attitude. Lads asking questions, backing each other, and taking on feedback as the game went on.
These kinds of matches are invaluable. No pressure on results, just pure focus on improving as individuals and as a team.
A big thank you again to Kingswood we hope they got as much out of the game as we did.
One more game to go this season… and then it’s full steam ahead as we gear up for life as Under 15s. Exciting times ahead for this group, no doubt about it. 💙💛
