🌹 Rugby Rose: U11s Bring the Buzz Against Bristol Saracens!
Patience. Determination. Pace. Three words that summed up a brilliant effort from our Yate U11s this weekend as they took on a very good Bristol Saracens side!
There was a real buzz around the team from the start, and it was fantastic to see the boys growing in confidence, becoming more comfortable with their positioning and really putting their training into practice. Despite being up against strong numbers and adjusting to a different team every quarter, Yate held their own and gave Saracens a proper contest! This was an outstanding game of Grass Roots Rugby!!!
💥 Oscar Rae — One for the Highlight Reel!
Let's start with our standout moment of the day!
A massive congratulations to Oscar Rae, our Man of the Match! 🏆
Oscar was absolutely outstanding, putting into practice what he has been learning in Wednesday evening sessions. His tackling was superb, his determination was there for everyone to see, and he gave everything for the team.
Oscar, keep up the hard work — it's brilliant to see your progress shining through on match day. A thoroughly deserved award!
⚡ Ollie and Harry Lead from the Front
Two players who really caught my eye were Ollie and Harry, both showing leadership, maturity and plenty of rugby intelligence.
Ollie had a challenging time at points, with the opposition putting him under pressure, but he kept his cool, stayed focused and showed a fantastic rugby head. That's not always easy, and it was great to see him rise above it and keep playing his game.
Harry, meanwhile, showed tremendous pace and a great understanding of how to move the team forward.
And these two combined for one of the tries of the day!
After Yate had just missed out on a try, Ollie made a powerful run before sending a fantastic long pass out to the wing. Harry was there to finish the move, turning it into a spectacular try. What a response!
That's the kind of determination and attacking instinct we love to see. Never dwell on the last play — get straight back into the game!
🛡️ A Team Effort from Start to Finish
Against a very physical Saracens side, Yate did a brilliant job of holding their shape and refusing to be moved from there game plan.
There were some fantastic individual contributions across the team:
Harrison really stepped up his work rate, showing great commitment throughout.
Luca put in some tremendous tackles and powerful runs.
Joey produced some big carries and kept pushing the tempo throughout the game.
Every player had a part to play, and the team spirit was clear to see. With Saracens bringing plenty of players and physicality, Yate had to dig deep, support one another and keep working hard.
And that's exactly what they did!
🤝 Teamwork That Says It All
One moment summed up the spirit of this group perfectly.
Harry had broken clear and was heading towards the try line with a great opportunity to score himself. But instead, he chose to pass the ball to Parker, giving his teammate the chance to get over the line.
That is teamwork in action.
It's easy to celebrate the tries, the big tackles and the moments on the highlight reel, but choosing to bring a teammate into the action tells you just as much about the character of a player.
Well done, Harry — a fantastic example of what being part of a team is all about!
đź“Ł Always Learning, Always Improving
One area for the boys to keep working on is understanding the referee's calls and adapting to the laws, particularly as some things are a little different from last season.
It's all part of the learning process, and this group continues to show that they're willing to listen, learn and make adjustments every week.
There were no new faces joining us this weekend, but the team continues to grow in confidence and develop together. The way they responded to the challenge from Saracens was a real positive.
💙💛 Proud Players, Proud Supporters
The final whistle brought plenty of proud faces, and rightly so!
The boys had taken on a physical opposition, worked hard for each other and continued to show fantastic rugby values throughout. The supporters were in great spirits on the sidelines, as always, offering plenty of encouragement and praise.
And that team buzz at the end? That's what it's all about!
🌹 Rugby Rose's Final Thoughts
This weekend was about much more than what happened on the pitch. It was about confidence, resilience, teamwork and seeing the hard work from training translate into match-day performances.
Oscar's outstanding tackles, Ollie and Harry's fantastic attacking combination, Harry's unselfish pass to Parker and the commitment shown by the whole squad all gave us plenty to celebrate.
The challenge gets bigger, the learning continues, and these U11s keep rising to it.
Well done, boys — keep working hard, keep backing each other and keep enjoying your rugby!
And once again, a huge congratulations to Oscar Rae — Man of the Match! 🏆👏
Patience. Determination. Pace. That's Yate! 💙💛🏉
