🏉 Try-Line Tilly: U10s Kick Off the Season with Plenty of Promise!

Well, we're back! And after the summer break, the Yate U10s were straight into action against Whitehall RFC, with plenty of excitement, a few questions and one big one...

What exactly were these new laws going to look like in a match?!

The team weren't quite sure what to expect, but they were certainly excited to give it a go — and they didn't disappoint.

Strong Carries & Clever Play

One of the standout moments came from Elijah, who produced a brilliant strong carry, drawing several defenders towards him before finding the space to offload and create a try-scoring opportunity.

But it wasn't just the individual moments that impressed. The communication across the whole team was fantastic to see, with the players helping each other adapt to the changes and working things out together.

That's some seriously good teamwork for the first game of the season!

Rucks, Turnovers & Attack!

The introduction of rucks brought a new challenge, but the U10s took it on brilliantly.

There was plenty of positive work at the breakdown, with some great attacking intent creating several turnovers and giving Yate opportunities to attack.

Of course, there's always more to learn. The next challenge is to keep working on staying on their feet at the breakdown and attacking in pairs.

What A Defensive Effort!

There was one moment that really summed up the team's determination.

Whitehall broke through and had a player racing towards the line with what looked like a very good chance of scoring.

But Yate didn't give up.

Three players chased back in support, and Henry produced a fantastic tackle just short of the line, stopping the attack and giving his teammates the chance to compete for the turnover.

And Henry was at it throughout the match, making more than his fair share of tackles and showing a brilliant work ethic in defence.

Someone clearly forgot to tell him that the season had only just started! 😂

Credit Where It's Due

A big shout-out to Whitehall RFC, who once again were fantastic opponents.

With great numbers available, they were able to rotate their players and keep the game going right until the end. It's always a pleasure to play against them, and they gave our U10s a really good first challenge.

And, of course, we can't finish without mentioning the supporters.

Having parents, families and friends on the sideline makes such a difference, and a special mention has to go to Harvey, who came along to support his teammates despite missing the match through injury.

That's what being part of the #YateRugbyFamily is all about. 💙💛

There were no debuts this time around, but after the summer break it was fantastic to see the whole squad hit the ground running.

New laws, new challenges and a new season ahead.

If this first outing is anything to go by, the U10s have got plenty to look forward to!
