🌹 Rugby Rose: Fun, Competitive and Skillful for Yate U7s & U8s

Well, what a morning for the Yate U7s and U8s! There was excitement, a little apprehension, plenty of energy and, most importantly, lots of smiles and rugby as our young players took on Whitehall RFC.

And if I had to sum up the day in three words?

Fun. Competitive. Skillful.

Rufus Makes His Mark! 🏉

One moment in particular caught my eye — and what a way to announce yourself!

New starter Rufus took the ball for his very first attack, headed towards the line, produced a brilliant side-step and then powered through to score his first try for Yate.

Now that is how you make a debut!

There were plenty of other fantastic moments too, with all our U7s and U8s showing something special — whether that was making a brilliant debut or taking their game to the next level.

Defence, Defence, Defence!

One of the biggest positives from the day was the team's defensive work.

The Yate players repeatedly had to reset and defend again and again, and they kept going. Rather than letting the pressure get to them, they worked together and showed some excellent determination.

And eventually, that pressure paid off.

After going through several defensive phases, Yate eventually forced an error, turned the ball over and suddenly...

Whoosh!

The ball was moved through the team and the players ran the length of the pitch to score.

That wasn't just a try.

That was a proper team effort. 💙💛

Quick Thinking

There were also some lovely examples of quick thinking with the ball.

Whenever the ball was spilled, a Yate player was often right there to pick it up and get it quickly into a teammate's hands.

That awareness and willingness to support each other is exactly what we want to see developing at this age.

The next challenge in training? Building those phases with even more passes and continuing to run forward.

Huge Credit to Whitehall

A big thank you to Whitehall RFC for being such welcoming hosts.

Their U7s and U8s were competitive, enthusiastic and clearly well coached, giving our young Yate players a great opportunity to test themselves and enjoy their rugby.

That's what these days are all about — learning, competing, making friends and having a brilliant time playing the game.

And Then There Were the Supporters...

Now, I have to mention the Yate supporters.

Because despite being outnumbered roughly 4-to-1, you certainly wouldn't have known it from the sideline!

The Yate parents and supporters made themselves heard, cheering the players on and giving them that extra boost when they needed it.

That's the #YateRugbyFamily in action. 💙💛

A fantastic day for our U7s and U8s, with every player contributing, learning and enjoying their rugby.

Fun. Competitive. Skillful.

And, judging by the smiles afterwards, definitely a day to remember!
