Well, folks… this was a big one!

The Yate U9s took to the field for their first-ever contact fixture, and what better way to start their contact journey than against a very large and competitive Whitehall squad?

There may have been a few nerves before kick-off, but once that first whistle went, those nerves quickly turned into energy, enthusiasm and plenty of passion.

For some of the players, this was a completely new experience. There was a lot to take in, a lot to learn and, of course, a few big tackles to be made!

And those tackles certainly didn't go unnoticed.

Every big hit, every try and every brilliant bit of effort was met with huge cheers and applause from the parents on both sides.

It was fantastic to see the two clubs creating such a positive atmosphere around what was an important first step for these young players.

💙💛 Nerves Turned Into Team Spirit

From the sideline, one of the best things to see was some of the players who had arrived feeling understandably nervous completely embracing the challenge.

They threw themselves into the game with energy and passion, supported their teammates and kept encouraging each other throughout.

And the team spirit was second to none.

That's what makes moments like this so special. It's not about getting everything perfect on day one — it's about having the courage to give it a go, learning together and enjoying the experience.

And these U9s did exactly that.

A big thank you to Whitehall RFC for providing such a strong challenge and for helping make the occasion such a brilliant experience for the players.

The match was played in an excellent and competitive spirit, with both sets of parents getting behind their teams and celebrating the rugby.

That's grassroots rugby at its very best.

🚀 And We're Only Just Getting Started!

The first contact fixture is now in the books.

There'll be plenty to work on at training this week, plenty more to learn and plenty more opportunities to grow as a team.

And then?

Straight onto the next fixture this weekend!

If the energy, passion and team spirit shown in this first contact game are anything to go by, the Yate U9s are going to be a seriously exciting group to watch this season.

First contact match. First big step. Plenty more to come.
