🏉 Yate Ladies 5 vs Chard 38 – Match Report 🏉

By Try-Line Tilly

Well… where do I start with this one? 💥 Because if there’s one word that keeps coming back to me after watching this game, it’s TEAMWORK.

From the very first whistle, you could feel the nerves in the Yate camp. You know that kind of nervous energy where everyone’s building each other up, having those little chats, a few extra claps on the shoulder… yeah, that was the vibe. But what I absolutely loved was how that nervous energy didn’t hold them back it fuelled them.

And by full-time? Completely different story. Smiles, laughter, and that proper buzz you only get when a team knows they’ve emptied the tank together. 🙌

💪 A Proper Team Performance

Honestly, it’s hard to single people out when the whole team grafted like that, but there were definitely some standout moments.

Sophie stepping in at 9 — wow. First time in the role and she didn’t just do a job, she owned it. Game management, sharp service, and even putting boot to ball from 9 like she’s been doing it for years. Serious performance.

And then there’s *Prim*, making her mark in the forwards. You could see the intent straight away — getting stuck in, carrying hard, and not shying away from the physical side at all. Definitely one to keep an eye on 👀

🛡️ Defence Built on Grit

If you’re talking about what Yate did well… it has to be the defence.

This wasn’t just tackles being made — this was *relentless, stubborn, “you’re not getting through here” kind of defence*. Again and again, phase after phase, they held strong. That kind of persistence doesn’t just happen… it comes from trust in each other.

There wasn’t one magic moment of resilience — it was the entire 80 minutes. Just digging in, over and over, right to the final whistle.

⚔️ Respect to Chard

Massive credit to Chard as well. A seriously physical side who asked questions all game long. Strong carriers, good structure, and great hosts off the pitch too — exactly what you want in grassroots rugby.

🔄 Looking Ahead

If there’s one thing to build on, it’s confidence in attack. The foundations are there — the teamwork, the structure, the effort — now it’s about backing themselves with ball in hand and really expressing that.

👏 Sideline Support

Big shoutout to the travelling Yate support too. That noise, that encouragement — it makes a difference. The players feel it, especially in those tough defensive sets.

🏁 Final Word

This wasn’t just about the result — this was about a team growing, learning, and fighting for each other.

*Three words?*

👉 Physical. Defensive. Team performance.

And honestly… if they keep building like this, there’s some seriously exciting rugby ahead 💙💛
