What a contest this was. Yate Under 10s took on a fierce and determined St Bernadette’s side, and from the very first whistle you could see just how much the hard work on the training ground has been paying off. This wasn’t just effort — this was a team that knew what it was trying to do, and went out to do it together.
The team were buzzing from the start. St Bernadette’s came out fast, physical and aggressive, but Yate kept their heads, trusted their fundamentals and stuck to their rugby.
That composure paid off again and again, with turnovers being won through good body position, smart tackling and excellent support play. That’s the kind of rugby that wins matches long before the scoreboard ever tells the story.
A massive special mention has to go to Ollie. Not feeling 100%, but still turning up and putting in a huge performance — leading from the front, making things happen, and showing exactly what it means to play for your teammates. That’s proper rugby spirit.
What really stood out to me was how the team came together as one. The defensive line was hard to break, with players working for each other and filling gaps, and when Yate got their hands on the ball, they made the most of it — hitting rucks hard, securing possession and then breaking through with real purpose and pace.
The second half was a real test. St Bernadette’s didn’t let up for a second and managed to sneak a try or two, which made it tough to keep the pressure on. But credit to Yate — they adjusted, refocused and found a way to keep themselves in the game. That ability to adapt under pressure is huge for a group this young.
I also want to give a big shout-out to Dennis. Injured and unable to play, but still there supporting his mates from the side-lines. That’s not easy, but it shows how much this team cares about each other.
The opposition were relentless — quick, physical and always asking questions — which made this a proper rugby battle. And as always, the side-line support was absolutely dedicated, pushing the team on and creating a brilliant match-day atmosphere.
If I had to sum it up in three words?
Pressure. Teamwork. Pace.
Another strong showing from this Yate U10s group — full of grit, growth and that unmistakable love for the game. 💙💛
