🏉 Match Day Report – Yate / Whitehall / Quins U14s vs Keynsham

By Side-line Sam

Score line first, story second… because trust me, this one was about a lot more than numbers.

Yate / Whitehall / Quins 33 – Keynsham 46

Now yes, Keynsham took the win—but if you were stood on that sideline, you’d know this was one of the most complete team performances I’ve seen from these lads all season.

💙 It’s All About the Team

The standout? Easy.

Every single player playing for the person next to them.

With four new starters coming into the side against a very well-drilled, seasoned Keynsham team, you might expect things to feel a bit disjointed… not this group. The effort, the support, the communication, it was all there. Every lad bought in, every lad worked, every lad backed each other.

That’s culture. That’s growth.

🔥 A Proper End-to-End Battle

The boys were right up for this one. There’s been a real focus on finishing the season strong, and you could see just how far they’ve come.

Earlier in the season, against the same opposition, breaking their line felt like trying to get through a brick wall. But this time? Different story.

This was end-to-end rugby. Attack, counter, pressure, response. Yes, a few small mistakes opened the door at times but the intent, the belief, and the execution showed just how much this team has developed.

By full-time, there was pride. Real pride. The kind that comes from knowing your hard work is starting to pay off.

💥 Units That Stepped Up

The scrum was outstanding today—solid, dominant, and a real platform to build from.

In the forwards, Skinner and Des put in some strong carries, getting Yate moving forward when it mattered.

Out wide, the backs brought energy and intelligence:

  • Seb with a few cheeky steps to unlock space

  • Taie putting in some dominant, no-nonsense tackles

  • Reniko leading from the front with powerful runs

  • And a clever tactical switch between Xander and Jack at scrum half, bringing balance and control when it was needed

That kind of adaptability? Huge for a team growing together.

🛡️ Built on Defence & Belief

Defensively, this team worked together. Not individuals—a unit. Communication, effort, and trust in each other kept them in the fight all game long.

And the tries? Every single one felt like it had come straight from the training pitch. That’s what you want to see—learning turning into execution.

⚔️ Credit to Keynsham

Keynsham were exactly what you’d expect—physical, organised, and clinical when opportunities came. A very good side and great hosts, and they made this a proper contest from start to finish.

👏 Side line Support

Big thanks to everyone who travelled. The support on the side line doesn’t go unnoticed—it lifts the lads, especially in games like this.

🚀 Looking Ahead

This season has built a serious foundation. And with numbers growing (word’s getting out about this team 👀), there’s real excitement about what’s next.

Next season won’t be easy—but if this performance is anything to go by, this group will take it head on.

🏁 Final Word

Three words?

👉 Team. Team. Team.

And honestly… that says everything. 💙💛🏉
