Ladies and gentlemen, we have lift-off!

The South Gloucestershire Falcons U12s have played their first-ever match, and if this is a sign of things to come, girls' rugby around South Gloucestershire needs to take notice.

Three clubs. One brand-new team. A group of girls who had never played together before.

And what happened?

They became a team.

🚀 Charging Out of the Gates

There was a little apprehension before kick-off. New teammates, a new environment and, particularly, the challenge of a five-person scrum meant there was plenty to think about.

But the nerves didn't last long.

The Falcons came charging out of the gates, and it didn't take long for Martha to get the scoreboard moving with a brilliantly quick opening try.

And just like that...

The Falcons had arrived.

🌟 Phoebe: Pocket Rocket!

Now, I'm going to be honest — the whole team deserves a massive mention.

For your very first match together, the way these girls gelled was seriously impressive.

But there was one player who simply couldn't be ignored.

Phoebe Kiff.

What a player.

Phoebe may be a pocket rocket, but she plays with a huge presence. She ran rings around the opposition, crossed for several tries, wasn't afraid to put in a tackle and, perhaps most impressively, was organising the girls around her on the pitch.

That's quite some debut.

Her mentality and attitude to the game were exceptional.

Sadly, Phoebe picked up an injury during the match, but the response from her teammates was fantastic. The whole team rallied around her to make sure she was okay.

That's a team.

We hope you're back on your feet very soon, Phoebe! 💙🏉

🤝 Three Clubs. One Team.

Perhaps the most impressive thing wasn't a particular try, tackle or passage of play.

It was watching the girls become a team.

These players have come together from three different clubs, yet the communication, support and teamwork developed incredibly quickly.

They backed each other up. They encouraged each other. And when the opposition scored, they didn't let their heads drop.

They simply got back into position and went again.

That's exactly the mentality you want to see.

💪 A Tough Test

And the Falcons certainly weren't given an easy introduction.

The Barbarians are a formidable and tough side, with some very good players who provided an excellent test for this brand-new Falcons team.

There was plenty of intensity from both sides, and it was exactly the kind of match needed to find out what the Falcons could do.

And the answer?

Quite a lot!

There is still work to do, particularly around tackling technique and making sure that once the tackle is made, the girls are working to squeeze the knees and complete it effectively.

But that's what the first games are for — learning, developing and building together.

📣 What a Sideline!

The Falcons girls were backed by a loud and very vocal group of parents who made sure their support could be heard!

And what was brilliant to see afterwards was that the rugby family got even bigger.

Falcons and Barbarians supporters came together to congratulate both teams on a fantastic game of rugby.

That's grassroots rugby at its absolute best.

Teamwork. Determination. Watch out, because the Falcons are coming!

Three clubs came together.

One team emerged.

And they've already started making waves.
